Location Description

The Lawrence, Kansas facility is 236,000 square feet and home to about 155 hard working team members who are proud to produce iconic pet food brands like Kibbles 'n Bits®. Lawrence is a college town and the home to both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University with Kansas State University about 85 miles away. The city is known for a thriving music and art scene and is also the home of the University of Kansas athletic teams.


Responsibilities

Utilities Mechanic 

 

Maintains, inspects, and operates utility systems including but not limited to compressed air, process water, and electrical distribution.  

 

The schedule for the Utilities Mechanic will be:  

  • Saturday - Monday with alternating Fridays 
  • 12-hour shifts, either 6am - 6pm or 6pm - 6am (shifts do NOT rotate!) 
  • Shift premiums up to $1.50 per hour 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain compressed air systems and electrical equipment including preventative maintenance tasks, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational data. 
  • Maintain pumps and piping to ensure water supply to production lines and to support equipment. 
  • Review work orders to ensure materials are available and develop manpower and scheduling estimatesInitiate work orders when work cannot be performed immediately 
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspection functions and take the initiative to ensure these programs are modified and updated as needed 
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and orderly work area to ensure employee and food safety 
  • Key contributor to ensuring overall plant safety, being an active advocate for team member safety, and key participant in safety investigations and improvement efforts.

Qualifications

The successful candidate (s) for this role will have the following qualifications: 

  • Possess a high school diploma or a GED 
  • Mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical experience   
  • A proven track record of consistent performance delivering safety and quality 
  • Capability to work well in a team environment and be willing to help solve problems and implement solutions 
  • Ability to comply with a strict attendance policy 
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 
  • Ability and willingness to communicate with cross functional teams 
  • Experience in food manufacturing preferred 

 

Expectations:  

  • Able to operate, perform basic physical activities: climbing, standing, bending, twisting, and moving around stairs, ladders, platforms and various equipment 
  • Able to lift objects up to 60 pounds frequently 
  • Must be able to effectively read, comprehend, interpret, record, and apply information from documents 
  • Qualified candidates may be required to complete an assessment
