Position Summary:

The Transportation Planner is responsible for the planning and execution of transportation activities within the distribution network. The Transportation Planner will be required to operate in the Transportation Management System (TMS). This role will be responsible for order creation, optimization, and exception management within the TMS platform for intracompany and outbound customer deliveries focused on driving cost savings and service. The Transportation Planner will coordinate daily with the Customer Service team members to ensure customers receive service at the highest levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use the TMS platform daily to review and prepare new orders that flow from the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for execution in the transportation network.
  • Optimize transportation cost savings through maximizing order size (load consolidations) and mode selection.
  • Monitor and manage carriers to Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
  • Review carrier service levels regularly and track performance trends. Participation in quarterly business reviews with carriers as requested.
  • Daily tracking of shipments in progress to ensure on-time performance to end customers.
  • Coordination with Customer Service teams to ensure proper transportation execution based on customer needs.
  • Audit of carrier invoices in the TMS system for invoicing accuracy. Review discrepancies as needed with carriers for resolution.
  • Serve as a resource on special projects as needed to provide insights regarding transportation.

  • Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in transportation planning, preferably within private brands or consumer packaged goods.
  • Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office products, including proficiency in MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with members of different teams
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience using and executing orders with web-based TMS systems preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Must be able to sit for 7+ hours per shift
  • Must be able to walk for 1+ hour(s) per shift
  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required
  • Qualifications



    Bachelors or better.



    3 years:Experience in transportation planning, preferably within private brands or consumer packaged goods


    Experience using and executing orders with web-based TMS systems preferred
