Senior Financial Accounting Manager



Position Summary

Reporting to the Division Controller, the Senior Financial Accounting Manager shall hold responsibility for administration, analysis, and reporting of the Company’s overall accounting functions in multiple countries. He / She will be critical in developing methodology and execution within JDE or supporting systems for the accounting of such said revenue and accounts receivable, and will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior management, preparing the basis for management reporting and decision making at the division level, along with creating reports as needed. This position will provide leadership to multiple roles at our Divisional Headquarters. The Senior Financial Accounting Manager will work closely with the Sales leaders to ensure the adequacy of all discount and allowance accounts, and ensure that all brokerage fees are properly recorded and paid. He / She will prepare weekly and monthly management reports required for audit and tax purposes, while offering analytic support to the Division Controller and CFO as required. This role will train on responsibilities held by Division Controller so as to offer adequate support as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a common platform for all business units of the Company and lead the process for timely forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Oversee transfer pricing and profitability analysis throughout the organization
  • Develop methodology and execute the correct recording of sales, deductions and allowances, and account receivables for each segment of the Private Brands business
  • Provide the Company’s corporate management with various analyses in relation to specific aspects of management reporting and analysis
  • Provide direction and leadership to the Divisional Accounts Payable staff and all other business line analytical support for profitability analysis by product, location, and region, and overseeing performance results for all daily functions.
  • Prepare, analyze and report weekly, monthly, quarterly and year to date gross and net sales by brand and customer type, utilizing and developing reporting out of Business Intelligence Tool (Tableau); update, analyze, clear and make recommendations on the balance of all allowances at a customer level
  • Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations including all check printing (and EFT transactions) and bank accounts (domestic and foreign) are reviewed and reconciled accordingly
  • Ensure all positive pay information is properly submitted to banks so check can be cashed
  • Complete all necessary schedules for tax, external auditing, management reporting, and mandated government surveys
  • Assure that the general ledger transactions and associated information is correctly feeding the Business Intelligence Tool (Tableau) and corporate consolidation tool. Can develop and extract data out of Tableau and the corporate consolidation tool to create custom reports as necessary
  • Complete month end reporting as required by corporate and division management related to sales, sales deductions and allowances, freight and SG&A costs; assure all sales orders correctly make it through the system and revenue is recorded in the correct period
  • Ensure adherence with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 implementation for all phases of revenue recognition, pricing, sales deductions and allowance recognition and general accounting
  • Develop additional internal controls as required to complete full scope audits, maintaining internal control documentation and test internal controls
  • Prepare detailed account analysis and reconcile sales and liability accounts by customer type by division; Review and analyze margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies regarding profitability
  • Work in special projects and other special assignments as required
  • Represent Finance/Accounting on teams designed to improve operations, reduce costs, etc.
  • Some travel required to support plant locations and division initiatives throughout U.S. and Canada
  • Qualifications


  • Sound analytical depth and strong technical skills in finance and/or accounting with a knowledge of accounting principles, practices and application, necessary understanding of budget preparation and analysis techniques
  • Strategic consulting skills which move beyond adherence to specific analytical tools and methodologies; the ability to “think outside the box” generate alternative solutions for consideration, and provide comprehensive risk/benefit analysis on those alternatives
  • Proactive advisory skills with business units
  • Strong project management experience and team leadership ability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills appropriate for consultation to all levels of stakeholders; as well as ability to construct and deliver technical presentations confidently stating professional opinions
  • Broad business knowledge and focus
  • The ability to influence and lead in driving change in the organization
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel advanced Excel skills, especially advanced financial modeling and analytical techniques; possess ability to adapt to and learn new software
  • Prior experience with ERP computer systems an asset
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills are essential to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Education:

  • 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance; advanced degree or professional accounting designation preferred (such as CA, CPA, CGA, CMA, CMT)
  • Experience

  • 5 - 10 years of accounting experience; financial and/or cost accounting preferred
  • Previous experience with international finance and foreign transactions (UK, Canada required)
  • GAAP accounting and general accounting concepts
  • Experience in a manufacturing warehouse or facility a plus
  • Qualifications



    Bachelors or better in Accounting or related field.
