Position Summary:

The purpose of the role is to build profitable sales of the 8th Avenue Foods and Provisions (8AFP) product portfolio to Food Service Distributor customers. This position will have responsibility for the management and performance of our private brand business for specific Food Service Distributor Headquarter accounts. The qualified candidate will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow top line and bottom line growth for the 8th Ave. product segments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day to day operations of the sales function for assigned Food Service Headquarter Distributor customers.
  • Achieve assigned top line volume and profit goals.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships within assigned Headquarter Distributor Accounts to include Senior-level corporate executives and 8AFP leadership.
  • Develop and coordinate custom products that meet a specific need for targeted customers.
  • Responsible for a complete understanding of the 8th Foods & Provisions departments, including R&D, Supply Chain, Demand Planning and understanding Market Conditions.
  • Responsible for negotiating strategic contracts and pricing programs within established parameters.
  • Responsible for becoming a sales specialist in all the 8th Ave. Foods & Provisions value added product lines.
  • Responsible for periodic business plans and OGSM’s as well as monthly activity reports.
  • Actively participate in the 8th Ave. Foods & Provisions Demand Planning process to provide business intelligence and to review data and analytics in collaboration with the Supply Chain team.
  • Successfully sell-in new product offerings and/or company initiatives.
  • Anticipate problems and take quick action to resolve.
  • Effectively manage broker teams to ensure goals are achieved.
  • Penetrate key decision makers to understand account goals/strategies and collaborate to build their business.
  • Ability to forecast existing and new business.
  • Effectively lead internal, cross-functional customer teams.
  • Proactively manage up via recommendations to improve business procedures, etc.
  • Demonstrate a positive professional attitude with company and account personnel.
  • Management of trade funds (accruals) and T&E expenses within assigned budgets.
  • Work collaboratively with Sr. Director of Customer Development and the marketing team to develop cohesive sales strategies that maximize business opportunities.
  • Track customer service issues and coordinate resolution with the appropriate individuals.
  • Manage deduction process to maintain a ledger balance below target.
  • Understand and utilize customer P&L data effectively.
  • Required over-night travel: 40-50%.
  • Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Food Science.
  • Minimum +8 years sales experience in food industry with an emphasis on Food Service Distributor Accounts, (Headquarter calls).
  • Extensive knowledge of kitchen operations including a broad understanding of culinary applications.
  • Strong presentation skills to include market and commodity conditions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication as well as problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed individual able to work in fast-paced, independent environment.
  • Strong Leadership skills with the ability to cooperate, coordinate, direct and inspire the productivity of others, and lead cross-functional teams within the organization and key customers.
  • Ability to multi-task and to prioritize objectives, anticipate situations and take quick action.
  • Computer skills required: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate success with driving new distribution.
  • Demonstrate success with internal team/customer negotiation.
  • Preferred Education, Experience, And Skills:

  • Experience with CRM (Salesforce suite, particularly Sales Cloud highly preferred), with ability to navigate, and generate and analyze reports.
  • Recent HQ experience selling major customers, buying groups, brokers and/or distributors in the Food Service industry a plus. (Sysco, US Foods, GFS, PFG, Unipro, DOT Foods).
  • Experience selling food products preferred.
  • Experience with scheduling travel through Concur preferred as the position is subject to extensive overnight travel, including some weekend travel for meetings, trade shows and conventions.
