POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the QA Manager, the Micro Lab Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Micro Lab staff, reviewing and preparing reports, and ensure testing procedures are followed to comply with applicable regulations and company policies

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review lab reports to identify potential micro problems and results
  • Verify procedures are followed and updated
  • Ensure all procedures and policies meet the USDA, FSIS laboratory recognition program
  • Oversee daily micro testing for Salmonella, Listeria, SPC, Coliform, E Coli, staph, yeast and mold
  • Maintain budget for microbiology section of QA Department
  • Provide technical support and leadership to micro lab staff
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
  • Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. BA from 4-year college or university in microbiology or related science
  • 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in group situations. Ability to respond to questions from internal/external customers/vendors at all levels including management.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively interact with others

    Preferred

    Bachelors or better in Food Science.
