Attune Foods LLC, a part of 8th Avenue Food and Provisions, is proudly located in the Pacific Northwest in beautiful Eugene, Oregon.

The R&D Lab Technician is Works with Food Technologist in the development of new products and the continued improvement of existing products. The successful candidate will oversee the sensory program, train and lead weekly meetings with the internal sensory panel. The R&D Lab Technician will also assist in providing technical information and support to vendors and customers as required. Other tasks include training, coordinating and leading internal sensory evaluations with the in-house panel and create lab prototypes from product development concepts.

Job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Trains, coordinates and leads internal sensory evaluations with the in-house panel. Arranges quarterly calibration training with outside contractor.
  • Creates lab prototypes from product development concepts including but not limited to sourcing of new raw materials, packaging materials and research into new product/process/packaging technologies.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining the R&D lab, storage areas and the shelf-life study room.
  • Assists in creating and conducting production test plans and approving new products and designs with regards to those tests.
  • Conducts stability tests for all new products and packaging confirming shelf life. Conducts research as required to extend shelf life of new or existing products or test new materials. Maintains all shelf life studies and documentation.
  • Assists in formula and recipe set up for costing.
  • Provides as required and when directed research ability, analytical testing and advice related to research on new or existing ingredients, packaging, products, production/process engineering and assists in any Quality related projects.
  • Responsible for lab upkeep.
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining Food Safety and Quality programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Required Competencies & Knowledge:

    Knowledge of:

  • Requires depth of knowledge and sharp awareness of all Attune Foods products and production process environments.Skill in:
  • Strong math, computer, basic scientific, statistical and analytical skills
  • Organization and time management
  • Must be able to document investigations, testing and lab procedures accurately.
  • Must be able to follow written and scientific procedures and trouble shoot production problems within the context of written guidelines or directives.
  • Must be very detailed oriented in observations and documentation. Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Precise and complete communication with sales, operations, and all departments involved with assigned projects.
  • Ensure collaborative relationships with staff.
  • Receive instructions and report back progress
  • Show high level of independence and initiativeProficiency in: MS Office Suite, JDEdwardsWork Environment:
  • Work is primarily done in an lab setting
  • Frequent production environment exposure which includes noise, dust, moving machinery, fork lifts, and fluctuations in temperature Physical Requirements:
  • Stand, walk, climb stairs on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis.
  • Use lab equipment - scales, moisture, and others as needed
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma, GED or the equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or lab environment, performing technician or operator responsibilities.
  • 2-4 year college degree in a Science-related field preferred.
