The Role…

The Sr. Scientist is part of the R&D team and is responsible for leading technical activities for our core portfolio (Ready to Drink Shakes, powders) and/or supporting development of innovation or renovation projects. The Sr. Scientist is expected to apply scientific methodology and thinking to design experiments, use a disciplined approach to formulate products, prepare lab/pilot plant products, and support manufacturing. They will translate data and knowledge to drive commercialization process to create business results. They must have an ability to apply principles of food science to solve industry relevant issues and then explain data and scientific principles to general audience.

New Product Development: 40% of Time

  • Launch new products from concept to commercialization
  • Provide and exercise technical expertise through the development of solutions for new and novel ingredients, product formulations, and undertaking technical and manufacturing challenges
  • Lead and provide technical updates on a variety of R&D projects, ensuring alignment throughout the course of project lifecycles
  • Provides insight and expertise on future product development opportunities for new ingredients, products and processes
  • Responsible for successful scale-up to commercial production through collaboration with operations, QA, marketing and external co-mans by aligning on process capabilities and finished product specifications
  • Core Activities: 40% of Time

  • Support for current product line- optimize supply chain for ingredients and manufacturing, provide solutions for cost control and reduction
  • Provide continuous improvement insights and bring the best ideas into fruition
  • Develop and maintain relevant specifications and improve commercialization processes
  • Think outside of the box and be curious to find unique ways to create more robust formulations that bring improved product quality and stability
  • Use collaborative and problem-solving skills to find technical solutions that are sustainable and win-win to all groups
  • R&D Team Support: 10% of Time

  • Mentor junior scientists and lab personnel as needed
  • Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction when needed
  • Job requires analyzing information and using analytical and sensorial data and logic to address work-related issues and problems
  • The daily routine that everyone does but few quantify: 10% of Time

  • Attending meetings, product cuttings and presentations

  • What are we looking for?

    Education:

  • BS Food Science/Nutrition/Engineering or related field required; Innovation/Process technology/Sensory/Culinary Training/Product Development Experience preferred
  • Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in product development, innovation and/or technology development with RTD beverages required
  • Experience with aseptic processing is a plus
  • Passion for food science, food microbiology, curious about nutritional aspects of food and possess an uncanny ability to combine unique technologies and ingredients to create differentiated products is preferred
  • Skills:

  • Being a confident and independent worker with great communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work well in teams
  • Possess curiosity, creativity and alternative thinking to develop new innovative solutions
  • Position requires critical thinking ability to explain complex technical subject matters to non-technical personnel
  • Strong technical knowledge to solving complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement suitable solutions
