PNC is part of the Active Nutrition segment and is operated by its own senior leadership team, with publicly traded Post Holdings, Inc. (FY 2018 sales of $6.3 billion) as a parent company acting in a “private equity” capacity. Post Holdings’ Active Nutrition segment is a leader in providing innovative products that support healthy, active lifestyles with over $800 million in sales. Premier Nutrition utilizes a third-party network for manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. Post Holdings is comprised of the Active Nutrition portfolio, which includes PNC, Dymatize, ­­­and Active Nutrition International (protein bars, shakes and powder products), Post Consumer Brands (cereals), Michael Foods (eggs, potato, cheese, and pasta), Weetabix (cereals), private label business groups, and Bob Evans Farms (a leader in frozen breakfast meats and vegetables).

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading development of new products and revitalizing core brand over a broad portfolio- powders, RTDs, and supplements. Candidate has demonstrated ability to apply Scientific Method to experimental design, formulation, lab/pilot plant preparation of products, and manufacturing. Candidate will then translate data and knowledge to drive commercialization process to create business results. This position requires ability to apply principles of food science to solve industry relevant issues and then explain data and scientific principles to general audience.

JOB DUTIES:

New product development: 40%

  • Launch new products from concept to commercialization
  • Provide and exercise technical expertise through the development of solutions for new and novel ingredients, product formulations, and undertaking technical and manufacturing challenges
  • Lead and provide technical updates on a variety of R&D projects, ensuring alignment throughout the course of project lifecycles
  • Provides insight and expertise on future product development opportunities for new ingredients, products and processes
  • Responsible for successful scale-up to commercial production through collaboration with operations, QA, marketing and external co-mans by aligning on process capabilities and finished product specifications
  • Core Activities: 50%

  • Support for current product line- optimize supply chain for ingredients and manufacturing, provide solutions for cost control and reduction
  • Provide continuous improvement insights
  • Develop and maintain relevant specifications and improve commercialization processes
  • R&D Leadership: 10%

  • Mentor junior scientists and lab personnel
  • Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction when needed
  • Job requires analyzing information and using analytical and sensorial data and logic to address work-related issues and problems
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: BA/BS food science/engineering or related field required; Culinary Training/Experience preferred

    Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience in food product and/or technology development
  • An interest in food science, cooking, baking, nutrition and other aspects of food preparation and preservation preferred
  • Key Skills:

  • Position requires critical thinking ability to explain complex technical subject matters to non-technical personnel
  • Strong technical knowledge to solving complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement suitable solutions
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly about health, safety and hygiene
  • Being a confident and independent worker with great communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work well in teams
  • Possess curiosity, creativity and alternative thinking to develop new innovative solutions
