(FY 2018 sales of $6.3 billion) as a parent company acting in a “private equity” capacity. Post Holdings’ Active Nutrition segment is a leader in providing innovative products that support healthy, active lifestyles with over $800 million in sales. Premier Nutrition utilizes a third-party network for manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution. Post Holdings is comprised of the Active Nutrition portfolio, which includes PNC, Dymatize, ­­­and Active Nutrition International (protein bars, shakes and powder products), Post Consumer Brands (cereals), Michael Foods (eggs, potato, cheese, and pasta), Weetabix (cereals), and private label business groups. Post Holdings is rapidly expanding via acquisition, including the recent acquisition of Bob Evans Farms, a leader in frozen breakfast meats and vegetables.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Primary function of the position is assisting R&D development team, learning company R&D standards and process. The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented, analytical thinker who is comfortable in the lab and adept at learning how to operate new equipment. Working under the supervision of Directors, the Lab Technician will support Food Scientists and Technologists in exploratory research and development work, production technology, and optimizing quality control processes. We're looking for someone who's flexible and has a positive outlook with a “can-do” attitude!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

FOOD TESTING & ANALYSIS: 40% of TIME

  • Maintaining organization of food lab work areas
  • Performs and becomes proficient in established testing and operation procedures
  • Conduct and evaluate shelf life studies at prescribed intervals and report results to the Project Manager
  • Coordinates routine lab and equipment maintenance with vendors
  • Packages and mails samples to plants, vendors, and samples for testing
  • Perform product attribute testing including viscosity, pH, chemical compositions
  • Perform lab equipment calibrations and/or verifications as needed. Lab equipment maintenance and problem troubleshoot is required as needed
  • Develop and executes a critical lab instrument calibration management program
  • Organize and help maintain lab cleanliness
  • Coordinate verification, calibration routines and maintenance program for laboratory equipment and instruments in the lab
  • Support installation and setup of new instruments as needed
  • Other duties assigned as needed
  • PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT: 40% of TIME

  • Assists New Product Development in the execution of benchtop runs/experiments to commercial production with an understanding of food production process
  • Prepares product samples for presentations and sensory testing
  • Planning for new formula development sessions and creating samples
  • Support the development of finished product specifications
  • Provides support for pilot plant trials and startups as needed
  • Planning and presentation of new product prototypes to multidisciplinary team
  • Other duties assigned as needed
  • LAB DOCUMENTATION: 20% of TIME

  • Collects and documents routine experiment data using spreadsheets for review and interpretation
  • Maintains precise records
  • Request raw material documentation and request raw material samples
  • Enter ingredient nutritional data and formulas into Genesis to generate nutrition facts panels
  • Completes and maintains ingredient and finished product specifications
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

  • BA/BS degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related science field
  • Experience:

  • 1-2 years of related food science, food manufacturing, and/or laboratory experience is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is a must; Familiarity with Genesis is a plus
  • Skills:

  • Proactive approach and an honest work ethic for a fast-paced company
  • Attention to detail, adaptability, ability to work independently, and strong communication skills are essential
