The Role…

Reporting to the Manager of Sensory & Consumer Science, this position is responsible for helping to build and expand Sensory and Consumer Science capabilities, leading internal employee panel testing efforts, providing sensory support in the pursuit of great tasting, high quality Premier Nutrition ready-to-drink (RTD) Shakes and powders. This position has great potential to become either a sensory core team leader who will manage all the sensory panels and testing (employee and descriptive) or a sensory project management leader who will manage sensory support for PNC Core base business, brand news, and flavor renovation initiatives.

Sensory Panel and Lab Management: 75% of Time

  • Plan and conduct all routine internal sensory panel evaluations
  • Formalize internal panel testing execution procedure and tracking of all internal sensory data
  • Implement new internal sensory testing approaches
  • Maintain internal sensory panels and motivate panelists to increase internal testing participation
  • Establish internal panel validity through qualifying and screening employees based on acuity or usage and attitudes
  • Understand and effectively use sensory software
  • Manage laboratory housekeeping based on Good Lab Practices including records, sensory test supplies, and lab facility maintenance
  • May be trained to manage the descriptive analysis panel
  • Sensory support for specific business initiatives: 25% of Time

  • Provide sensory support for product launches that build on existing platforms from concept to commercialization, including core base business, new flavors, and/or brand news
  • Develop sensory test plans and timelines with Product Developers and then communicate sensory test status to cross-functional project team
  • Provide interpretive sensory results, data summaries, and the necessary guidance for product optimization
  • Be an active team member and support product development scientists with their innovation and margin management efforts and bring projects to successful completion
  • What are we looking for?

    Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Culinary Science, Psychology, or related field
  • Having a passion for Sensory and Consumer Science; Sensory related courses/Certification is preferred
  • Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience in sensory evaluation and/or Product development, including knowledge of the principles and techniques of sensory product evaluation
  • Experience that has demonstrated your interest in food science, cooking, baking, nutrition, and other aspects of food or beverage preparation and preservation is preferred
  • Skills:

  • Knowledge and a passion for Sensory and Consumer science
  • Passion for food, cooking, flavors, ingredients, etc
  • Enjoying tasting different products; sensory acuity and discernment
  • Proven well developed/effective communication (both written and oral) and teamwork skills
  • Passionate about interacting and working with people
  • Adept at training and engaging panelists
  • Strong computer, project management and written communication skills
  • Proven success at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of ownership and professional commitment; driving to completion
  • Critical thinking ability to explain complex technical subject matters to non-technical personnel
  • Possess curiosity, creativity and alternative thinking to develop new innovative solutions
  • Quick learner that picks up on new processes easily and is self-motivated to ask questions to seek clarity and when necessary can work efficiently under tight time constraints
