Golden Boy Foods’ Fruit & Nut Business Unit is focused on healthier food categories and is a leading manufacturer and distributor of hundreds of private label and branded food products. Our extensive product offering includes conventional and organic baking nuts, snacking nuts, trail mixes, raisins, dried fruits and other products (beans, rice & flour). Position Summary:

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Buyer is responsible for the timely placement of purchase orders and the delivery of materials to meet the company’s manufacturing requirements, and to maintain stock inventory levels within established guidelines in order to support production planning based on finished goods requirements. The Buyer will maintain supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance and quality, cost saving initiatives, and participate in issue resolution.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Ensure purchase orders are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and contract terms (i.e. price, time, freight, customs, etc.).
  • Explore opportunities to lower the cost of raw materials through continuous sourcing and other cost savings initiatives.
  • Be competitively aware, through a comprehensive understanding of the market, trends and pricing
  • Identify new opportunities: assess and prioritize ideas and projects along with the Procurement Manager.
  • Develop new sources and manage contacts with an emphasis on cost saving, quality, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Source raw materials that meet all quality and raw material specifications established by Golden Boy Foods. Monitor inventory flow, inventory on hand, and lead times, and maximize inbound freight shipments.
  • Issue, track, and verify all purchase orders for accuracy and ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Foster good relationships with all domestic and international suppliers. Resolve vendor grievances and claims against suppliers.
  • Review reports for out of stock and expedite open orders. Maintain accurate inventory levels for raw materials, packaging.
  • Communicate effectively with production management on issues that will adversely affect production.
  • Maintain and update logistics models, including distributing reports to the teams and maintaining data integrity in JDE.
  • Work with customs brokers and suppliers to avoid import delays, process CAD payments, and other documentation requests.
  • Coordinate supplier returns of rejected ingredients and packaging.
  • Process contract releases and follow up with suppliers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Education And Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, or equivalent in training and experience combined
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in purchasing of commodities in Food Manufacturing
  • Preferred Education, Experience, And Skills:

  • SCMP designation preferred
  • Experience with US and international suppliers, food contractors, and export experience an asset
  • Experience with procurement activities including sourcing, purchase ordering, inventory, demand, replenishment management, and supplier management
  • Proven experience with negotiation skills, contract development and management
  • Basic knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to company purchasing practices
  • Strong planning, analytical, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work on multiple objectives within tight timelines.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • An organized problem solver, able to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Advanced in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with JDE preferred
  • Able to travel if required
